Best Practices for Integrating Online Video Into Your Marketing Plan, Part 1 – “Why?”
I recently spoke to the Lancaster, TX Chamber of Commerce at their monthly Better Business Breakfast about using online video as a component of their overall marketing plan. The first hurdle to overcome is to understand why online video is becoming such a critical part of marketing a business effectively. I can not stress enough, particularly for small businesses, how important it is to place video or multi-media content on your website and/or other platforms such as social media.
Why should I use video to promote my business?
· Online video has grown impressively over the past several years (39% in 2007 and 46% in 2008), but exploded in 2009 with year-over-year growth of 124% and over 18.4 billion views.
· 75% of the U.S. Internet population are watching video!
· Videos are exceptionally suited for product demonstrations, showcasing products in use along with the related actual results, showing complex specific product details.
· Compelling video helps to justify products by explaining the unique features and can serve as the final push that a consumer needs to make a purchase.
· In addition to conversion impact, a recent Forrester survey found that placement of a video on a home page can increase your SEO score by a factor of 50.
I am here to help steer you in the right direction for either professional video resources or tips for success for DIY’ers. You can always post discussion topics and ask questions at Media 101 With Mark on Facebook.

Online Video Goes Mainstream
Want to know how to market your business/brand effectively? Start using video on your website and social platforms!
Here’s an excerpt from a recent article posted on eMarketer:
“This year, eMarketer estimates that 66.7% of US Internet users—147.5 million people—are watching video online each month. By 2014, that figure is forecast to rise to 77% of Internet users, or 193.1 million people. In the same period, online video advertising spending will surge from $1.4 billion to $5.2 billion.”

Businesses who do not adapt and begin producing relevant, quality content to populate their websites and social platforms will be left behind and lose market share to competitors who take advantage of WHERE potential customers are researching purchases and HOW they are making their purchase decisions.
Whether you create marketing content yourself or hire a professional to do it for you, start the process now and get ahead of the trend. 2010 is the year to step up your marketing game with video.

Media 101 – How Are You Using Media to Market Your Business?
Is your business using multi-media assets for internet marketing?
If the answer is yes, congratulations, you are on the way to maximizing the marketing potential of your web and social network.
Now, ask yourself a few questions about the content you’re distributing online;
Does your media content tell the story of your organization or brand, and your impact on your clients?
Is your content relevant, of good production value, and appealing to your target demographic?
How consistent is your message across multiple web and social distribution platforms?
Are you optimizing the impact of your media assets through cross-promotion, keywords, tags and descriptions?
Do you have a long term plan for continual development of content and expansion of your web and social distribution network?
If the answer is no, don’t panic, but you need to get started right away to stay ahead of your competition.
Here’s a few things to consider when integrating media into your marketing strategy;
Like individuals, every company has an unique story to tell. What’s your story and how do you want to tell it?
Take an inventory of all existing media assets. Do you have printed materials, web content, photos, testimonials, articles, video?
Evaluate your existing assets for brand consistency, relevance and quality. How can you utlize existing assets in your new strategy?
Start small to keep your strategy managable and trackable. Which online distribution platforms make the best sense for your business?
Make sure the work you do delivers lasting benefits. What is your plan, and how do all of your media assets work together to accomplish it?
